Mahima Mahavidyalaya, Joranda is a premier Co-educational institution transfusing Higher education (Under Graduate) to cater to the need of a large number of local rural youths of the Dhenkanal District-a backward district of the state. This sacred institution dates back its origin to the year 1978. Situated at Joranda-the cradle of a world-famous religion named Mahima Religion, the college aims at fulfilling the philosophy of this religion;

by trying to enlighten the budding rural talents with this philosophy being instilled in them in an atmosphere filled with a sense of spiritualism and humanism beyond all social differences and barriers of caste, creed and religion.
The institution made its inception as a brainchild of some native luminaries, philanthropists and a mass of enthusiastic public under the patronage of a celebrated Mahima Sanyasi Srimat Jatia Baba, the then President of Koupinadhari Mahima Samaj, Joranda.
Mahima Mahavidyalaya, Joranda was the surging need of the rural based economically poor students and parents in the District of Dhenkanal aspiring for Higher Education. The Koupinadhari MahimaSamaj with Srimat Jatia Baba at its head patronized this College which was established on 01.08.1978 with I.A class. The College came under Grant in Aid fold of the Government of Odisha in the year 1984. It was elevated to a Degree College from the year 1986-87 being affiliated to Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar. The College got affiliated with UGC under section 12 (B) and 2 (F) in the year 1991. With opening of +2 Science in the year 1991 and +2 Commerce in 1994, the College became full-fledged at the +2 level and with opening of Honours in different subjects at +3 level, it is now considered to be one of the leading Degree colleges of Dhenkanal District. Apart from Arts, Science, Commerce & Vocational streams at +2 level; the College has honours teaching facility in English, History, Political Science, Economics, Education, Sociology, Sanskrit in Arts; Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology in Science and honours teaching in Commerce.
